Parquet Collection

People nowadays want to know more about the products they choose. Every product has a story behind it, and with Parquet, the kilim collection designed by Front, that story happens to be a fascinating one. The Swedish duo, Anna Lindgren and Sofia Lagerkvist, collectively known as Front, were inspired by the French word parquet when creating their rug collection. The word means “space within a space”, which perfectly captures the spirit of their creation: geometric motifs with colourful infill panels that separate and define the different spaces within the rug.

But the story behind Parquet is also about craft, specifically about the craftsmen and craftswomen of India who produce this exceptional collection by hand. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a movie can be even more valuable. Here we see part of the story of Parquet, the test panels, the abstract patterns laid out for examination. Then the looms operated by hands who know intuitively how to fashion a work of art. A knowledge that is passed from generation to generation.

Finally, we see the ultimate destination, Parquet in the context of a home. Its detailed edges follow the logic of its geometry and bright colours. The kilim rug was traditionally used by nomadic tribes not only as a rug but as wall decoration and for wrapping. This movie shows the story behind a collection that stretches from nomadic tribes, to Swedish designers and Indian craftsmen, to finally arrive at home.
