2019, a year replete of awards and recognition

The last twelve months have been filled with new collections, promising collaborations and prestigious recognitions to our effort and the talent of the designers with whom we have the pleasure to collaborate.

2019 has been a particularly generous year with us and, from GAN, we want to thank the different media and institutions that have awarded our NUANCES, BACKSTITCH and PLY collections and, of course, their designers: Patricia Urquiola, with whom we have a longstanding friendship, Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay from Raw-Edges, and Alberto Sánchez and Eduardo Villalón from MUT Design.

Urquiola’s latest creation for GAN, NUANCES, was the chosen winner in two prestigious events. In May, NUANCES won an NYCxDESIGN Award, given by Interior Design Magazine, in the category of Residential Flooring. This is the third consecutive NYCxDESIGN award that a collection by Urquiola for GAN receives- after GARDEN LAYERS (2017) and MIRAGE (2018)-. However, the triumph of NUANCES didn’t stop there. Recently, NUANCES has won the Wallpaper* Design Award for Best Stripe Action. This is an important international recognition of the masterful combination between craft, innovation and sustainability that NUANCES represents, and to the years of work and development dedicated by Urquiola and GAN’s team.

On the other hand, stitch by stitch, the beauty of BACKSTITCH has crossed borders, placing the London-based studio Raw-Edges and GAN among the most prominent names in the industry in 2019. The collection, which highlights the reverse of traditional embroidery and is handmade by artisans from the GAN’s Women Unit, won the Dezeen Award in the Homeware Design category, the Archiproducts Design Award in the Decor category, and an EDIDA award, given by Elle Decor Japan, in the Floor Covering category. Three prestigious awards that highlight Raw-Edges’ endless creativity, the importance that GAN gives to both innovation and craftsmanship, and the social and environmental responsibility behind the BACKSTITCH design.

Last December, and only a few days apart, PLY also obtained two notable distinctions. The collection, created by Valencian studio MUT, was selected as the best product in the Residential Rugs/Carpets category at the Best of Year (or BoY) Awards -organized by Interior Design Magazine. It was also selected as the winner in the Home/Textile category of the Design and Innovation Awards granted by Spanish magazine Fuera de Serie.

We begin 2020 with a few successes under the arm. Although, for us, the best prize is to continue freeing up our curiosity and desire to create, with the help of fantastic designers who, like the entire GAN team, love what they do.
