ELLE Magazine SPAIN recently announced its nominations for the EDIDA Design Awards including the VALENTINA collection within the FLOOR COVERING category. The winners of the 13th edition of what is considered the design ‘Oscars’ of ELLE DÉCOR are selected by a jury of 25 editors-in-chief from around the world and include 13 categories; Designer of the Year, Young Design Talent, Furniture, Seating, Fabrics, Wall Covering, Tableware, Lighting, Bedding, Floor Covering, Kitchen, Bathroom and Outdoor. The final results will be announced at the awards ceremony during the 2017 edition of the Salone del Mobile in Milan.
The VALENTINA collection, deigned by Alejandra Gandía-Blasco includes a series of hand made designer rugs and seating produced by craftsmen and women of India, inspired by the embroidery of classic lingerie. Natural, warm and refined the character is marked by its integration of hand embroidery techniques learned in the home and transposed into the hand made rug making crafts after a thorough investigation into the rich and varied craft techniques of India, carried out by Mapi Millet, the Director of GAN.
With the VALENTINA collection the embroidery technique is reinforced by the traditional chain stitch rather than being merely decorative. Its organic and feminine shape breaks with the traditional rectangular format underlining its originality within the GAN range of products.
The designer rug acquires spatial volume thanks to the VALENTINA easychair, consisting of two overstuffed cushions supported on an ergonomic metal frame which rests directly on the ground. The collection is available in beige and crimson as well as the recently added charcoal grey colour.
