Good weather calls for livelier designs and in the GAN catalogue we find a selection of proposals that stand out for the energy and color of their geometric shapes, mosaics, and frets. Both new introductions and classics spread out like canvases on which world-renowned designers combine their creativity with the skill and care of GAN’s craftsmen and women. Games of scale and color, contours and textures, and endless sources of inspiration are woven in using creative techniques such as hand-knotting, embroidery, or kilim.
A thousand and one motifs: patterns that let your imagination run wild while you work, never taking your feet off the kilim
Kilims are the perfect blank canvas for creativity and they aesthetically complement all kinds of corporate styles, leaving behind the seriousness and austerity of the conventional offices of the past.
In one of the work areas at Beats in Culver City (California), rugs take center stage and become the nexus between culture and new technologies. Conceived for a young, creative team by Bestor Architecture, the space provides a cutting-edge working environment that fosters the company’s adaptive culture. In contrast to the minimalist interior, the TASILI kilim is a clear example of a rug’s functionality and versatility. Here it acts not only as an anchor point and sound absorber, but also as an element that manages to moderate light —since dark colors have light-absorbing qualities— and turn the space into a warmer, more relaxed, and welcoming place. TASILI, by Sandra Figuerola, alternates crosses, dots, and triangles with sinuous lines in a composition that reinterprets cave drawings and vestiges of lost civilizations.
This type of geometric kilim, a common choice in an increasing number of contract installations for its quality, comfort, and durability, works well for delimiting areas, harmonizing with other types of materials and colors. In another Californian office, Fetch, designed by Huntsman Architectural Group, Enblanc‘s HEXA kilim gives a master class in geometry. Overlaid with two DUNA kilims by Odosdesign, several layers of oblique lines in coordinated colors add comfort and dynamism to a shared, multifunctional work area that invites cooperation and personal connection.

Expression of an individual style: floors that tell stories and create unique spaces.
The design of a rug adds character to an entire environment. That is why, thanks to craftsmanship, specialized equipment, and a wide range of techniques and materials, GAN is able to create unique designs for spaces that require something completely new. The GAN Custom personalization program gives freedom to the imagination, allowing you to choose from bespoke carpets or adapting catalogue designs.

The Room Mate Giulia boutique hotel, a historic 19th-century building just a stone’s throw from Milan’s Duomo, reflects these custom capabilities. Patricia Urquiola, the author of some of the most renowned GAN collections, was commissioned to design the interiors of this establishment and its key elements, such as the rugs that decorate the lobby. Created especially by GAN for this project on a special loom, these large pieces were made using a series of overlapping grid patterns that combine shades of white, blue, and light blue with others such as coral to bring to life an eclectic décor that unites tradition and innovation.

Warm woolen tiles woven in wool
Decorative tiles and mosaics from bygone times are on trend this year —alluding once again to concepts such as geometry and biophilia— and often inspire the rugs that reign in contemporary living areas.
Cold, hard-touch materials such as concrete, stoneware, and ceramic are replaced by natural fibers in creations such as HIDRAULIC, designed by the GAN team, which uses the hand-knotting technique to recreate the intricate flourishes characteristic of ancient tile flooring. Pieces like this are particularly suitable for neutral floors so that their design stands out and can give a modern twist to tradition.

And who better than Brianda Fitz-James Stuart, a lover of patterns and painted tiles, to bring her own vision to life in the world of rugs. Taking different periods and cultures as a reference, her MEDIEVAL FACES and WHITE DAISY rugs, made using the hand-tufting and chain-stitching techniques, are art in essence. With a balanced chromatic combination, they are both classic and modern at the same time. In addition to their undeniable decorative power, they manage to separate spaces and uses while preserving the room’s spaciousness and natural light.

Comfort, a touch of color, and contemporary designs based on craftsmanship to create friendly environments at home, in a hotel, or in the office: GAN‘s formula to surrender to “pattern mania”.
