We are very happy to announce an important recognition from the design world for a partnership with purpose. A collection of recycled PET rugs by Patricia Urquiola for GAN, a Gandia Blasco Group brand, has won the Contract Flooring category at the NYCxDESIGN Awards. And, this time, by the hand of our partner Haworth, a world leader in workspaces.
The prizes awarded by the renowned Interior Design Magazine have distinguished the fruit of a collaboration between companies that, in particularly complex times owing to pandemic -people affected by the virus, closed workshops, chaotic transport… – have joined forces and have succeeded in interweaving very different collectives and realities to ensure the survival and dignified work of artisan communities in India.
PATCH and CORD, designed by Urquiola for the collection that GAN edits exclusively for Haworth, were proclaimed winners during the virtual awards ceremony held on 18th May. These are two series of rugs in four colors each, made from 100% recycled PET fibers, a highly resistant material that adapts perfectly to the working environment. These pieces are entirely handmade in India, one of the most polluting countries but also one of those with the most PET recycling plants. PATCH, which is made with the dhurrie technique forming an interesting grid pattern, and CORD, made by handloom with PET rope, show that at GAN sustainability and high performance always go hand in hand. PATCH and CORD will be available soon in the Haworth Collection.
Since 2017, GAN has been a permanent member of the Haworth Collection -along with other brands such as Cassina, Poltrona Frau or Capellini-, created with the purpose of redefining the design of workspaces by projecting more human, comfortable and versatile work environments.
The NYCxDESIGN awards are supported by the ICFF and Wanted Design fairs in New York, and recognize the most exceptional designs and projects in the industry over the past year. In previous editions of these awards, the jury has honored other GAN creations, such as GARDEN LAYERS (2017), MIRAGE (2018) and NUANCES (2019) by Patricia Urquiola; LAN (2018) by Neri&Hu; and ZOE (2020) by Daria Zinovatnaya.

On behalf of the entire GAN team, we would like to thank the organization and the jury of the NYCxDESIGN Awards, as well as Cindy Allen, editor of Interior Design Magazine, for this new recognition.
Finally, we would like to congratulate Patricia Urquiola, Haworth and the rest of the award winners.
