There is nothing like a trying a craft technique first hand to really appreciate the care and attention that handmade objects require: skill, patience and time.
This is certainly what GAN had in mind when launching its 2017 Catalogue in New York this past November 17th. Three manual looms were installed at the GANDIABLASCO Flagship Showroom in SoHo, New York. Guests got to see a GAN-rug being woven live by an expert, and also had the chance to try out the looms for themselves, creating a ‘collaborative’ rug throughout the night.
The launch also highlighted a display of the new RAW collection, designed by Borja García. RAW’s poufs, pillows and rugs feature geometric wool stitching over a jute base. According to the Valencia-based designer, these pieces were inspired by Mediterranean residential architecture of the 1960s and its functional modernity. With RAW, jute and wool are combined in a decorative yet functional style that celebrates the integrity of its materials.
It was a night to celebrate design and creativity, in its most essential form: handmade.
