2020 has just begun and we’ve already received fantastic news: Patricia Urquiola’s latest creation for GAN, NUANCES, has won the Wallpaper* Design Award for Best Stripe Action. A distinction shared with the ingenious transformable and foldable clothing line created by British fashion designer Craig Green for the Moncler Genius project.
The Wallpaper* Design Awards have been celebrating exceptional design every year for sixteen years. A jury formed by first-line creators selects the most prominent figures, places and objects for a total of eleven categories, while the editors of Wallpaper* and their collaborators choose the winners in the rest of the categories, as in the case of NUANCES. The February 2020 issue of the magazine, which is already out on the streets, includes the complete list of winners of this prestigious award, which aims to highlight designs that can improve daily life, resist the test of time and have a positive impact.
This is the second time that GAN wins one of the coveted Wallpaper* design awards: in 2010 FURTIVE PERSAN – a work by Jean-Marie Massaud – was chosen as Best Rug.
NUANCES is a sustainable collection composed of three carpets and a pouf made of felted leftover wool, a reinvention of the material that gives it a new and transgressive stonelike appearance. The colors schemes, densities and subtleties in these pieces, entirely hand-sewn by expert craftsmen and women, create an intentionally sensorial and artistic experience.
The masterful combination of craftsmanship, innovation and sustainability that NUANCES represents had already been recognized at the 2019 NYCxDESIGN Awards, granted by Interior Design Magazine in New York.
Each new distinction is a recognition of the fruitful alliance between Urquiola and GAN, which continues to reap success. Thanks to Wallpaper* for encouraging us to continue creating!
