The latest by Inma Bermúdez Studio, MUT design and Daria Zinovatnaya presented at MDF

Last February 6th, GAN unveiled in its showroom, during Madrid Design Festival, three new projects: ROOTS by Inma Bermúdez Studio, PLY by MUT Design and ZINOVATNAYA by Daria Zinovatnaya.

Three relevant designers both on a national and international scale, three personal languages, three different creative processes, three ways to imagine how rugs can configure a space. ROOTS, PLY and ZINOVATNAYA are very different collections, but with something in common: markedly contemporary designs with an artisan spirit.

Inma Bermúdez Studio revealed in Madrid a preview of its first creation for GAN, ROOTS, before the international debut of the collection that will take place during the next edition of Salone del Mobile in Milan. The designer, whose works can be found all over the world thanks to her collaboration with brands such as IKEA or Lladró, shares with GAN her Mediterranean roots. These origins are what inspire the four kilim models and stools that compose the ROOTS series, made with natural jute fibers and cotton manually. The shape of the square is repeated with different scales and rhythms to represent a fabric, a material or a variation of color, never leaving the natural tones of its raw materials.

On the other hand, PLY, the acclaimed MUT Design collection for GAN, was exhibited in Madrid after being shown at “Das Haus – Interiors on Stage” at imm Cologne, an installation conceived also by the Spanish studio. Alberto Sánchez and Eduardo Villalón – designers at the head of MUT Design – have created a pattern based on the repetition of organic forms and enveloping textures that have no beginning or end. Like plywood, PLY lines fold over themselves in tightly intertwined loops and smooth color ranges. Since its launch just a few months ago, PLY has received several distinctions, including the Best of Year Award, awarded by the American magazine Interior Design; and the Design and Innovation Award granted by the Spanish magazine Fuera de serie.

Finally, GAN presented a collection by Ukrainian interior designer and industrial designer Daria Zinovatnaya, which expresses, in the purest form, the importance of form and color as the basis of her work. The ZOE collection is a series formed by two rugs with their own personality, made using two different handmade techniques – hand-knotted and dhurrie, respectively. Their designs begin on a blank canvas in which textures, geometric shapes and color planes are combined to create compositions that convey harmony and tell us about their referents — movements such as Russian suprematism or the Bauhaus. Zinovatnaya, who works from her studio in St. Petersburg, collaborates with different brands as an industrial designer and moves his colorful universe to the interior design of hotels, homes and restaurants. In 2017 he won a Red Dot Award for her “Cherokee” furniture concept.

Thank you very much to all who stop by, we hope you enjoyed our latest designs!
