The multi-award-winning collection MANGAS ORIGINAL, one of the first Patricia Urquiola creations for GAN, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Inspired by the aesthetics of handmade wool sweaters, the popular architect and designer created this line of rugs and poufs, which broke with the conventions and traditional formats and made the rug, through color and rich textures, the protagonist.
MANGAS ORIGINAL is made up of 16 rugs inspired by different sleeve patterns – puffed, square, ballooned and bell-shaped – as well as three poufs that transform the collection into a three-dimensional concept: a “GAN space”. MANGAS SPACE was the natural successor of MANGAS ORIGINAL, a collection similar in textures but a lot more modular, bigger and more daring in color, which made the line between rug and furniture blur even further.
On the occasion of this tenth anniversary and for a limited time only, GAN is offering an additional 10% discount on all MANGAS ORIGINAL and MANGAS SPACE designs. The rugs and poufs, available in a wide variety of colors and sizes, can be combined as if they were modular pieces, or even hang from the wall as a tapestry. All of the pieces are handmade on manual looms by combining different textures of virgin wool, which creates a sensation of warmth and volume.
Over the past 10 years, Patricia Urquiola and GAN have strengthened their mutual commitment to innovation, the use of natural materials and the recovery of traditional artisan techniques applied to contemporary design. This is the case of the modular collection BANDAS, of GARDEN LAYERS, GAN’s first outdoor line, of MIRAGE and DEGRADE, rugs that are made of 100% New Zealand virgin wool, as well as NUANCES, which explores the possibilities of wool felt and was introduced at Salone del Mobile in Milan in 2019.
