The LAN collection, designed by Neri&Hu for GAN, has been recognized with an Archiproducts Design Award (ADA) in the Contract category. LAN is a collection of rugs, modules and dividers that reinvent and question a sofa’s typology, dividing it into different elements that can be assembled in various ways on the matching pure wool rug. Its name refers to the indigo color that characterizes the collection (“lan” means “blue” in Mandarin) and pays tribute to the oriental tradition of using indigo to dye home textiles.
The Archiproduct Design Awards, which celebrate their third edition this year, highlight the most virtuous collaborations between brands and designers, as well as product innovation. The ADA jury is made up of some of the most prestigious architecture studios in the world, along with designers, journalists, architecture photographers and design curators. Its objective is to reward projects that will leave a mark and become references for the world of design and architecture. The 2017 edition awarded GAN for the Best Outdoor Collection with GARDEN LAYERS by Patricia Urquiola, the brand’s first adventure in outdoor spaces.
GAN has worked with many different international designers throughout the years, always aiming at combining modern design with traditional craftsmanship. That is how LAN was developed, from a rich exchange of materials and ideas between Neri&Hu and GAN. Neri&Hu, the multidisciplinary studio founded by Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu with offices in both Shanghai and London, have created a collection that reflects their personality, merging oriental and western elements, very much in line with GAN‘s philosophy.
The LAN proposal is a step forward in the creation of spaces. The collection redefines the ideas of rugand sofa, combining them to create something completely new, depending on the choice of elements and their multiple combinations. The idea is to unite craftsmanship with the flexibility of modern life, and to inspire a notion of community that is transversal and versatile: LAN is equally at home both in residential spaces and in public spaces, such as hotels or offices. Its adaptability is one of its best characteristics.
LAN, presented last April at Salone del Mobile in Milan, also received the prestigious NYCxDesign award in the Contract: Seating category.
Many thanks to Archiproducts and congratulations to all!
