Archiproducts, the popular design platform, interviews Patricia Urquiola on her Garden Layers collection, created for GAN. This year, after the warm and enthusiastic welcome it received in 2017 from the public and media, the collection has been extended with two new elements: Indian beds and matching side tables. These new pieces can be combined with the existing rugs, mattresses, roll pillows and cushions, and they enhance the comfort and functionality of the entire collection. The new elements were officially launched at the 2018 edition of Salone del Mobile, in Milan.
The collection, which is GAN´s first venture into the outdoors, brings indoor standards of comfort to terraces, gardens, decks and, in fact, any exterior space. Patricia Urquiola was inspired to develop this collection during a trip to India, where she became enthralled by the ancient Mughal culture and architecture. The Mughal culture considered the garden as an extension of the home, a space for relaxation and the enjoyment of nature. Its influence is obvious in the collection’s textiles, colours and patterns, as well as in such details as the fringes and border seams.
Garden Layers features innovative materials and a range of fabrics suitable for all weather conditions. It can be used on any surface, and its modular nature allows the user to mix and match the different patterns and shapes to create a customised outdoor space. The addition of the Indian beds and side tables adds another layer to this award winning collection, which is profiled here on the Archiproducts platform.
