Mapi Millet, the director of GAN with this video remembers the journey to India that inspired Patricia Urquiola to create the first outdoor collection for the firm, GARDEN LAYERS. This new outdoor version of the exclusive Outdoor Spaces concept was recently presented at the most recent edition of Milan’s Salone del Mobile where the following interview was recorded.
GARDEN LAYERS includes rugs, mattresses, roll pillows and cushions which, as is the custom of the Orient, invite comfortable sitting back. Its Indian influence is also apparent in the border fringes, the materials and the geometry of the motifs.
The idea behind the collection came about two years ago when Patricia Urquiola visited an Indian museum. The delicacy and harmony of the Mughal architecture captivated the Milan based designer and she immediately knew that the collection had to be capable of being enjoyed outdoors.
The pieces are made from highly resistant fabrics, withstanding any climatic conditions using a dryfast type filling and are available in three groups of colours; terracotta, green and blue.
