The Backstitch collection, designed by Raw-Edges for GAN, has been recognized with the Dezeen Award in the Homeware Design category.
The Dezeen Awards, organized by the popular platform Dezeen, are an annual awards program that rewards the best architecture, interiors and product design in the world, with over thirty categories and participants from all over the world. The projects are judged by a total of 75 leading industry figures who select the winners based on three criteria: aesthetic rigor, innovation, and benefit to society and the environment.
In their assessment, the judges commented; “This is an outstanding design project that highlights traditional craft techniques and processes through hand embroidery. Backstitch has a powerful narrative and it is also a beautiful product. You can see every stitch, which highlights the design process. By emphasizing the collaboration with the women that made the rugs, the project also becomes beneficial and authentic.”
Backstitch is a collection of three rugs -available in two colors – that explore the beauty of what is typically hidden, giving prominence to the reverse of traditional embroidery. The rugs are made of pure wool and are hand-embroidered by the women of the GAN’s Women Unit, a group of female artisans who work in the manufacture of many of the brand’s collections.
The series consists of three consecutive designs, from the first arises the second and from this one the third, in a perfectly orchestrated conceptual progression that adds stitches and complexity with each step.
Thanks to Dezeen and congratulations to all the winners!
