The Mediterranean origins of the designer and the Valencian brand come together in this collection of hand-woven kilims with jute and cotton warp
ROOTS has been recognized with the ADCV 2022 GOLD design award in the Furniture/Auxiliary category for being “a series that invites to a sensory journey into the world of crafts, another way of doing things, using natural materials and returning to tradition, where imperfection is the main theme”, as stated by the jury in its evaluation of the collection.
In addition, ROOTS has also been recognized with the Positive Impact category award as a project that contributes, in a particularly outstanding way, to the improvement of society and the environment.
The prizes awarded by the Association of Designers of the Valencian Community were announced on May 25 at a gala where half a thousand professionals from the sector participated. All the award-winning projects are exhibited in an exhibition that is open from June 1 to July 15 at the Valencian innovation centre Las Naves. This initiative is part of the official program of the first festival of the New European Bauhaus within the framework of World Design Capital Valencia 2022, a milestone in the history of Mediterranean design in which Gandia Blasco Group and GAN have played a key part as driving brands since the candidacy of the city by the World Design Organization®.

GAN worked together with Inma Bermúdez to create a collection of contemporary crafts that celebrates the laborious work of weavers and embodies a needed return to essentials. ROOTS is a purely Mediterranean collection made up of a series of four kilims made with jute in various versions, with the shape of the square as a pattern repeated at different scales and rhythms. These rugs can be accompanied by versatile stools that evoke traditional peasant seats, also hand-woven with cotton and jute and with acacia wood structure.

It is an honor to receive this recognition and we want to share it with all of you. With all our love and admiration, we congratulate Inma Bermúdez and the rest of the award-winning creators and we greatly appreciate the dissemination work carried out by the entire organizing team of the Association of Designers of the Valencian Community.
